Plate by Plate 2011 Ticket Giveaway
[UPDATE 2011-08-04: Since I'm a media partner for this year's PbP, I've been given a special discount code: MP4KE2011. Use it here to take $25 off the price of general admission tickets. This only works 10 times, so don't lag!]
[UPDATE 2011-08-02: Well that was painful--having to choose two winners that is, because there were some great entries! First off, I had to disqualify Natalie, Melissa, Carly, Diana, asdfghjkl, Garrett, Jose Rheu, vietb, Michael Lerner, P., and Michelle for not leaving an email address. Meanwhile, New in town, :Doah, jerry k, and michael missed the noon cutoff. Christina's post, on the other hand, was just irrelevant. That left only about 18 valid entries. I went back and forth quite a bit, but finally decided upon Cassie and Victor Nguyen. Congrats you two!]
On Saturday, August 6, Project by Project will be hosting its ninth Annual Tasting Benefit, Plate by Plate. Project by Project is a national tax-exempt volunteer organization centered around issues relating to the Asian American community. Each year, PbP chooses a charitable organization to partner with, and this year, it's the Asian Youth Center (AYC), a non-profit group focused on providing social services to recent immigrant youth. As always, this event will showcase the gastronomic talents of some of LA's most popular restaurants, as well as alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages from a bevy of leading purveyors. Be sure to check out my report from last year's Plate by Plate tasting.
The benefit will be held at the Vibiana cathedral in Downtown, future home of Neal Fraser's Grace. Here's the current slate of participants:
Tickets are currently on sale at $150 for regular admission. However, I'm giving away two VIP tickets, valued at $250 each! To win, just leave a comment with your name, email, and a brief blurb about what you're looking forward to most about the event (the eats, the free-flowing booze, the women, the men?), and why. Please submit entries by 12:00 noon, Monday, August 1st. I'll select the two best entries and announce the winners Tuesday. Good luck! |

Kevin darling, the blog still looks absolutely delicious. Best thing about a late night, I’m the first to comment here :)
What I’m looking forward to at PbP:
Perfection – that one amazing bite that will make me swoon but the more the merrier
babes - all chefs are sexy to me but I really do adore Walter Manzke, that man can cook
Peeps – the fellow foodies, restaurant participants and beneficiaries at AYC make this a truly worthy party to be at!
I am a foodie voyeur. I live vicariously through food bloggers/enthusiasts such as yourself, and I dream of dining all over LA.
I would most look forward to the undoubtedly amazing eats, and it would be especially interesting to see how thoughtfully and creatively each chef composed his small plate.

Hi Kevin!
I live for food. Just recently moved to Los Angeles and I take to your blog for my dinner plans, so thank you.
For the Plate by Plate event, I would most look forward to tasting the perfectly crafted bites from the amazingly innovated restaurants the event has partnered with, Night+Market, Pizza Ortica, Guelguezta, Haven Gastropub....my mouth is watering and my stomach is grumbling already.
And what better to support a great cause while feasting on some of LA's best chef's creations and sipping chic libations. Beautiful food, outstanding cause, great people, sign me up!
Best,
Carly
If I get the tickets, I look forward to accomplishing the following:
1) Get drunk on beautiful brews from Stone and The Bruery;
2) Stuff myself silly with pork collar, or whatever other deliciousness Night + Market chooses to offer;
3) Get more drunk on creative cocktails from Sotto;
4) Head over to the Jitlada table to see if they can help me punch myself in the gut with a spicy dish;
5) Stumble to the Starry Kitchen table and molest the banana.
Obviously at this point I will need someone to take me home, which is why I need both tickets.
(BTW, it's awesome that you are doing this.)
This is awesome Kevin!
Looking most forward to PbP to spend the day with my sister Joanna before I'm off to Korea as our last eating adventure just us two :) Along with all the food and booze of course.
- Grace
Hi Kevin,
First I just wanted to say thanks for the ticket giveaway.
I would love it if I could get the tickets. I just moved from Detroit in this July and have been using your website as a guide for good eats. I am a foodie and sometimes it was really hard to find good food in Michigan.
I look forward most of all to eating and trying so much good food that L.A has to offer. Especially with all the horrible hospital cafeteria food Ive been eating lately.
I'm also looking forward to just having an awesome experience meeting some talented chefs and other foodies too!
I would be so grateful to have a chance to try some of these delicious creations.
I'm just going there to get drunk and run around obnoxiously.. :)
Haha no, I'm hoping Grace and I can spend some quality time together before she goes abroad to Korea for a few months :( We'll both be blogging separately for awhile so this will most likely be one of our last joint eating adventures!
Please please please send me!
I have never been to this food event and I think the cause and the participants are amazing. If I could afford to buy the tickets, I would most definitely support them.
But, in the meantime, if I win I will enjoy every tasty morsel there. And sip each sweet sip while thinking how awesome you are to have helped get me there. I just started working in food pr and this mingling opportunity would be priceless! I hope you'll let me go :)

Hi Kevin,
If I were to go, i would prepare and layout a game plan. I would analyze, categorize, create a guide and study it as you would an emergency map in the Edison building. Then start my night trying every single dessert first. Stuff my face until I've tried every morsel of sweet perfection. Then observe Chef Zarate perform his Peruvian magic at Picca. Then head on over to Night+Market and try anything that sounds questionably exotic - pig ears/pig tail. After peruse the rest of the restaurants on my list- especially at favorite Church & State & new comer The Royce. After the airy happiness that only one can feel from great food, friends & energy would I then call it a night.
What I'm looking forward to:
Definitely the variety of foods you get to try in one event, and maybe even meet you and other bloggers I've been following! I would also be excited just to be apart of such an event where you get to meet others with the same interest and even learn from this experience. I believe life is all about learning and I would be THRILLED I repeat THRILLED(!!) to try different plates of amazing food. :)
Also, would love to finally put my camera to good use and blog about the event!

Even if I don't get picked I'm still really happy you gave some of us this opportunity. $150 is steep for some of us.
I am from Chicago and just moved here less than a month ago. I love to delve into the foodie scene, but I have not yet had the chance here in Austin. (I don't even know where to start.) Seeing, smelling, and tasting while attending this event would make my year! I can't wait to check out all of the great food possibilities here in town!

i am looking forward to dressing up with my husband and eating like a foodie without 3 young kids in tow. this is a beautiful opportunity to try bites from all these restaurants i've been reading about, esp gorbals & fraiche in la. there aren't many opportunities to try so many bites from restaurants in one night. who knows, maybe i'll turn into a foodie blogger myself...
I am looking forward to eating great food from talented chefs and meeting creative people who are committed to eating well and helping others. As a former Asian youth immigrant (though now a few years older), I love the idea of supporting a good cause while partaking of the best bounty the la scene has to offer. Thanks for the chance to go.
Imagine if you will a Fifth Dimension, one in which a paramour of good food must survive in a culinary wasteland (Fresno) on a grad student budget. He hopes to enter a land of culinary delights, a feast for the senses, and support a good cause: my next stop (fingers crossed) "Plate by Plate 2011."

a brief blurb about what you're looking forward to most about the event (the eats, the free-flowing booze, the women, the men?): Stone Brewing Company.
why: What else can top that? Nothing.
Hi Kevin,
I have been reading your blogs for a few years now, I am an aspiring chef and have worked at some restaurants here in LA. Unfortunately as you know some of us cook don't really have the chance to meet other great chefs and eat out due to our limited pay. I am looking forward meeting the Great Chefs in Los Angeles Area and especially maybe to talk to them and maybe come in and have the Chance to speak with them about staging at their Restaurant to get more Knowledge in the Restaurant Business and to Have some Connection with the industry with Chefs here in Los angeles. Since I started reading your blog I am amazed on how many restaurants you've eaten at and how truly blessed you are to have the chance to eat and meet great chefs like them. I truly hoped I will get the tickets. I am looking forward also to tasting their food and to get some ideas as well. I hope all is well. Thank you and Godbless
This event is 100% me! :) I'm super attentive to food execution (more so than anybody I know), the event will be hosted in Downtown (my home for the last 8 years! and I still haven't had a chance to see the inside of St. Vibiana Church), and as an Asian American, the issue at heart strikes me to the core. Would love to get the chance to go with my partner, and experience the intersection of culture and culinary! And on top of it all, I'm sure my favorite protein will be in abundance ...

Regardless, Thanks Kevin for keeping up with your blog! It's very inspiring to see someone who not only writes eloquently (and in great detail), but also providing great photos to accompany it! Keep up the stellar work!!!
Swirling softly in my glass is something just right.
Swirling softly in my mouth has the kick, enough bite.
Swirling softly by my eye satin curls breathless sight.
Swirling softly inhale exhale it's a Plate by Plate Night.
I would love, Love, LOVE to go to the Plate By Plate event because where else can you have Jar, Picca, Jitlada, The Gorbals, and Starry Kitchen all in one place...and the amazing libations from Julian Cox to chase down all the delicious aforementioned? I've been reading your blog for a long time, and have really enjoyed your perspective (but most of all, your pictures. It would be an amazing opportunity to be able to taste from the chefs who have fed you so well. Oh, and did I mention the cocktails of Julian Cox? I want me some of those lovely creations, too!

As always, thank you for your wonderful blog! It's a terrible thing to read first thing in the morning, as it sets my hunger expectations so high, that regular food rarely satiates me. Perhaps if you came over & photographed it beforehand, then I could enjoy seeing it through your lens :-).
I remember reading all of the coverage of Plate by Plate last year & cursed myself for not having the foresight to find a sugar daddy who could pay my way in (silly low-wage assistant salaries make having a foodie complex difficult) and I would LOVE the opportunity to attend this year! I love all of the attendees, but am most looking forward to see what Night+Market and StarryKitchen whip up for the event!

i'm not gonna go on and on waxing poetic about how awesome your blog is or how getting the vip tix to PBP will earn me goodwill points.

thanks.

I am most looking forward to meeting Kevin of KevinEats, shaking his hand, and thanking him for the great tickets.
boom
As I sit typing this, after reading another fantastic blog post on the incredibly exciting dining options in Southern California, I could only imagine what could be experienced at Plate by Plate. Be it the amazing modern French cuisine of Church and State, or the classical stylings of Bistro LQ, there would be something to excite every last dot on my palate.
I have worked in fine dining nearly my entire life, and at the cost of providing the experiences that are sought out by diners, I have sacrificed my search for those experiences. Attending Plate by Plate would give me an opportunity to observe and experience the cuisine of many chefs without having to sacrifice a multiple nights on the dinning room floor.
My life has focused around food and beverage for quite some time now, and attending this incredibly event seems like something I could enjoy very much.

I am looking forward to enjoying copious amounts of unique flavor combinations created by some of LA’s most talented gastronomic artists, and mingling with all the gorgeous people in such a glamorous setting – and all for a charitable cause!
Hey Kevin,
Going to this event will mean a lot to me because one of my girlfriend's favorites restaurant is Haven Gastropub, because that is where I took her to one of our first dates. It would mean a lot to me if I could have the chance to surprise her to going to this event Since Haven will be one of the vendors there.
(Also my girlfriends birthday was this past week on 7/30/2011 and our 5th year anniversary is today 8/1, so this would mean a LOT to me, and help me look like a good boyfriend )
Thanks for taking the time to read this. and we are both Los Al Alumns :)

Last minute chance - new to town, (from NYC) and really want to meet all of the industry people in LA.
Though not the same as eating spiders in Skuon or Lampredotto in Firenze, I'm up for eating some really, truly interesting (and hopefully very spicy) stuff.
Is it too late? I hope not.
Hi Kevin! :)
Aside from consuming amazing food and supporting an amazing cause, I look forward to sharing my passion for food with new friends, and being continually inspired.

Hi, My name is Yuka, and I am a Japanese living in Los Angeles about 20 years. I've reading your blog. Your reviews are very helpful to find new restaurant.
I have a food blog myself, who have a curiosity about the food as much as you are. There are so many people Japanese who interested in food, so I made a "LA Foodie club" since 1994.
We go to eat out together at many restaurants in Los Angeles, enjoy talking about food, and making friends.
Over 20 years I lived in Los Angeles and compared with 20 years ago, I think the Los Angeles food and restaurants situation has changed dramatically.
I believe that Japanese are the world's most food-picky, but now days people who live in U.S. are also interest in about the food, too.
Transition in its Eating a lot of restaurants, good food and really believe that if one of the better taste, along with Kevin to sharing the joy of all about the wonders of food.
I never seen you introduced "Kiyokawa" which has raved about it by Jonathan Gold of LA Weekly so far.
And Kiyokawa-san(Owner Chef of Kiyokawa) is one of my good friend, so if you are interested, I'd like to take you to the Kiyokawa one day and introduce to him.
Please contact me anytime if you are interested about it.
I would be so grateful to have a chance to see you one day.
Thank you.

Hi Yuka, you have quite a nice blog yourself, and it's great that you've been into food for so long. I'm definitely aware of Kiyokawa, and believe me, it's on my list of places to try. ;)
