Plate by Plate 2013 Ticket Giveaway
[UPDATE 2013-07-25: Out of the 51 entries received, only 34 were valid. Stella M. Lee, GRACE, Anonymous{Amy}, Catherine Hsu, Nerissa N, and Anonymous{randy b}, you all submitted after the deadline unfortunately. Meanwhile, Tam Truong, 1000steps, Hillary Hon, Leah Newman, asdfqwerty, DonutLee, jonathans, and Rachel Marks didn't include an email address. A shame really, as there were some promising comments there. Also, Jonathan Lee submitted a verbatim copy of what Ada Li wrote, so I'm not sure what was going with him. In the end though, there were some great submissions this year, and it was a tough choice, but the final winner I have to say is Jane. For the rest of you however, all is not lost. Since there were a number of strong entries, I'm working on seeing if I can get a discount code for the "runners-up." I will be contacting you separately, so be on the lookout. Thanks for playing!]
On the evening of Saturday, August 3th, Project by Project (Facebook, Twitter) will be hosting its 11th annual tasting benefit: Plate by Plate. Project by Project is a national 501(c)3 non-profit centered around issues relating to the Asian-American community. Each year, the group chooses a particular theme to focus on (whether it be health, education, or the arts), and partners with a charitable organization in that space. This year's partner is East West Players, the country's premier Asian-American theater troupe.
As always, the upscale event will showcase the gastronomic talents of some of LA's top restaurants, as well as alcoholic and non-alcoholic libations from a variety of leading purveyors. VIP attendees will also be treated to a cocktail competition judged by Matt Biancaniello and Devon Espinosa and featuring contestants Deysi Alvarez (Paiche, Mo-Chica, Picca, Fraiche, Rivera), Dino Balocchi (Littlefork, Longman & Eagle in Chicago), and Brittini Rae Peterson (Goldie's, Ink, The Tar Pit, Fig & Olive, Soho House).
The benefit will be held at the beautiful Vibiana cathedral in Downtown, future home of Neal Fraser and Bill Chait's long-awaited Redbird. Be sure to check out my report from last year's event.
Tickets are currently on sale at $150 for general admission. However, I'm giving away two VIP tickets (giving you access to the preview hour, cocktail competition, VIP lounge and bar), valued at $250 each. To win, just leave a comment with your name, email, and a brief blurb about what you're looking forward to most about the event (the food, the open bar, the women, the men?), and why. Please submit entries by noon PDT, July 24th. I'll select the best entry and announce the winner Thursday. Good luck! |

I'm looking forward to getting to dress up for this event! Fancy pants Emily. :) My email is: majlkmint at.. yahoo!
Besides all the great restaurants, beverage companies and beautiful people that will be in attendance, I'm really looking forward to silent auction area. Last year, I won an auction for dinner for four at Saddle Peak Lodge and it was one of the best dinners I've had. Dinner was supposed to be a 4 course meal for 4 people, but it ended up being a 10 course meal! The head chef also came out to explain each dish, chat, and take pictures with us.
I'm also looking forward to raising much needed money for PbP's partner, East West Players, the premiere Asian American acting troupes. It's great to support an organization that helps provide opportunities for API acting talent who eventually become big named stars, like John Cho, George Takei, and James Hong.
If I win the tickets, I'll give them away to worthy people.

I really want to go to see and support what the asian-american community is doing within the industry.
I'd love to go and sample the food from restaurants I haven't had the opportunity to try yet. I would also want to attend the event to help support this year's cause.

I'm a total foodie and definitely would look forward to the food. I would not say that I'm there to steal some tricks from the chefs, but it would be nice if I can replicate some 'fakes' for my mommy :) However, $150 is quite a lot for a dinner; I probably will need to pass this time, and get rich before next August ... (unless I win a ticket **wink wink**)
Anyways, thanks for putting together this event. I'm so proud of us Asians!

I'm looking forward to the great collection of restaurants bringing some of best eats in LA. I think it's great that this goes to supporting Asian American acting. Oh and it doesn't hurt that beautiful people will be there.
Woohoo!
I look forward to supporting a great organization as well as trying all the wonderful eats that will be provided. As an aspiring chef it would be great inspiration!

I'm looking forward to enjoying excellent food and drink with a bunch of awesome people. The PbP group is great, so this is sure to be an awesome event! I'm also looking forward to learning more about East West Players.

Even though it's obvious, what I'm most looking forward to is the food! To have all of these chefs/restaurants represented under one convenient roof...awesome. I used to live in LA and followed Kevin's gastronomic adventures, but I moved to NorCal late last year. The food may be good in the Bay Area, but it's different stylistically. I miss LA's bold and diverse flavors! Well, I happen to be visiting the same weekend as Plate By Plate. And it just so happens many of the restaurants at this year's event I never tried.

Been back in LA for the last twoish months but have been stuck at coffee shops studying for the bar exam EVERY single day. This would be an awesome treat to reward myself from not going crazy, as well as a chance to catch up on all the food I should've been eating and trying out these last few months! (Exam ends on the 1st, so the timing is perfect!)
Thanks for giving us this opportunity! Now back to studying..

I've always been fascinated and intrigued by events like this, but have been limited to viewing the festivities through a computer screen on (wonderful) blogs like yours. Actually, these events have inspired me to start a blog of my own!
As a brand-new food blogger and a college student, I haven't had opportunities to connect with other bloggers or to really explore the wide, fantastic world of food just beyond my reach. Being able to attend this event would open up a whole new world that I've only (literally) been able to get a taste of, and provide inspiration and motivation for future years of blogging.
Thanks for the chance to do this, Kevin!

I've been wanted to go to Plate by Plate every year. Although I couldn't afford it until now. And in 2013 I realized that they have this event on my birthday! So, I think I deserve this giveaway for birthday present? LOL

Wishing to win this giveaway.
Thank you.

Besides the obvious foodie in me and getting excited about food plating and taking photos of everything I eat, I'd love to come support EWP and meet wonderful people in the community. If I win tickets, I'll definitely be walking around snapping pictures of everything yummy (I love food photography!). Posting pics of the event will hopefully intrigue friends about Plate by Plate and create awareness within the community. Sharing is caring and I'll definitely share my photos with you too. Thank you for the opportunity to attend an event I would otherwise not be able to!

I love Los Angeles (notice how I take the time to say it completely hahah. Those that live outside call it L.A.), and I won't call myself a foodie, just a person that loves food and drinks. The same way i wouldn't call myself a guitarist, i just play guitar. I may not know the art or comprehend the intensity, but i respect it. I respect my city's food. No other city in the United States is there such a less dense metropolis. We have to travel to eat here. I spend a great deal of time - and income for that matter - on trying at least one restaurant or bar a week. From the beach eats, to the Eastside (a term I find is becoming popular. Especially when referencing to real estate and restaurants. I'm born and raised in East L.A/ Montebello, so i know it as the ghetto hahah). I would love to have the pleasure to attend plate by plate. Reading how the upcoming Redbird is a participant makes me incredibly jealous of everyone; Bestia is incredible, so i can't wait to try the new project. Downtown has changed so much in the last 5 years, and viewing the list of restaurants, it's definitely now challenging Mid-City/ Century City for the hot spot eating destination, and would appreciate it beyond belief to attend the event. i've tried a handful of the eats and drinks on the list, but on my income it takes a few blows on my savings . However, i never regret it. Being the chosen winner will help tremendously on trying food from many restaurants all at once and increase my excitement on eating properly at their establishment. thank you for your time and consideration.

I screwed up on the comment last year and this year I'm back and hopefully to try out some fantastic food in LA. This also gives a perfect reason to take wifey out on a date night since she gave birth. We both definitely would enjoy the event. The food is what we are looking for, we even been to some of the participating restaurants but not all. The list looks very promising.
Thanks.
Looking forward to enjoying the showcase of chefs while supporting the awesome East West Players! A great cause for often overlooked APA entertainment industry!

That's awesome Kevin.
My new wife and I try to make it to as many Food and/or wine festivals we can, though not much the last couple of years. Anyways, It looks like a fantastic event and will starve myself as to reap the huge amount of great food. Peace.
To be honest, I really want to go and get drunk off all the alcohol and food that they offer :)

To support the Asian American community, meet new people and sample good food.
Good grief where does one begin to single out a reason to want to attend when there are so many. Great food and drink with the opportunity to meet the great minds behind such culinary delights. Not to mention its for a great cause so one won't feel too much guilt from the grotesque amounts of gluttony that probably will occur here. Food + drink + people + good cause + East West Players = Win (x5) situation.

I look forward to tasting all the ridiculously good food, checking out the art deco Vibiana and spending some QT with my +1!
This sounds amazing! Would love to go.
i'd love to take my cousin who's been remissive from aplastic anaemia this year, and hopefully win a silent auction item or two, in the hope of raising funds/supports for Plate-by-Plate & East West Players; it is my hope this year to 'beef up' my cousin who's lost 1/3 of her weight battling what could've been a dangerous disease.

I'm Looking forward to the food, especially the great newcomers in the LA food scene: Alumette, Alma, Bestia, Paiche, Petty Cash, and Taberna Arroz Y Vi.
It would be amazing to get to try these all in one setting. It's also a great opportunity to mingle and talk to people who are also in love with food.

Looking to get more involved with my first food event post-college.
I'm looking forward to seeing what crazy antics Nguyen Tran from Starry Kitchen will come up with this time. That guy cracks me up. It would also be awesome to experience the cocktail competition and to try dishes from the likes of Allumette, Alma, Bestia, and Petty Cash.

Hi Kevin
Till this day you remain an enigma to me. Food by nature has always been an emotional choice especially with the cost of finer dining.
Yet your site has been so detailed and elaborate in your texture and flavoring that I feel like you’re just a food robot churning out great reviews.
I am no longer sure if I look more forward to the actual food, or more addicted to how you seemingly give these food their own personality/ life.
Anyhow. For as long as I have been following in your footsteps. $250 vip pass while very expensive shouldn’t be a deterrent for anyone serious about this addiction they have picked up while following your site.
As to why I am writing right now.
I have been to most of these restaurants featured this year on plate by plate. So it comes down to a fancy night market/gala with hundreds of foodie sharing the same passion while extremely awesome. Almost like a food orgy. Which actually sounds pretty kick ass.
However winning tickets on kevineats is a complete different story. There is true glory in bragging to all my friends that I actually won tickets on kevineats and rubbing it in all of their faces, with pictures of every single food I devour that night . And hopefully I will finally have the pleasure of meeting you in person followed by a 3 shot vodka salute.
P.S
Thank you for all the successful date nights I’ve had following your site for the last couple of years.
Regards,
Wayne Lee

No, men.
How about uni ON men?
I'd be down.
The Project by Project Organization has helped a lot of Asian American Non-Profits by continuing to raise public awareness and most importantly capital.
It would be a great privilege to come out in support of such a worthwhile cause.
Thanks

Hi Kevin,
Obviously as a devoted, long time reader of your blog, the Food and helping a great cause would be what I would most look forward to if I went. Getting to sample all of these fantastic and creative chefs would be amazing.
My wife is also a foodie and more adventurous than me and our anniversary is next week so this would be a fantastic surprise on top of it.
Thanks for the opportunity.

What an epic pairing of food+drinks. This gives us a great opportunity to try samples from many restaurants that we haven't been able to make it to yet. Bestia is so difficult to get a weekend reservation to that this would be an awesome chance to see what they can do!
I love LA and everything it has to offer. This event captures the very essence of living in LA - elegance, diversity, warm summer nights, fun-friendly people (who just want to have a great time), and outstanding restaurants! With that said, I am most certainly looking forward to have my palate get a workout. I'm looking forward to trying new, unique, savory dishes (that I will take pictures of and post on fb :)). I look forward to an unforgettable evening tasting as many dishes as I can; enjoy a vibrant evening at Vibiana with my fellow foodies, and simply have a great time! Oh, and if my soul mate happens to be at the event, that would be nice too ;)

I want to treat my Grandma to the best meal in her life.
My Grandma's cooking is awesome. (Who doesn't have fond memories of their Grandma's food.)
For most of my Grandma's life, she didn't have much to cook with. Growing up, she didn't have access to a lot of ingredients... especially things like chicken and beef. Even when she raised my dad, sugar was very hard to come by. Despite this, she has always made awesome meals.
My cooking will probably not be good as hers until another fifty years or so.... But I still want to treat her fun, adventurous awesome meal!

I just returned to Los Angeles after 4 years in New Orleans, and I would love to attend as a welcome back to California (and California eating). One of the most exciting parts for me in moving back is the ability to once again experience a diverse offering of foods, be it fine dining or local ethnic eats.

Hi Kevin,
I would love to go to Plate by Plate and celebrate being able to get LEGALLY married to my wife. We got married 3 years ago but it was with our friends and family. We are going to the Courthouse next Friday and I would love to be able to give her this gift.
We met 10 years ago and have been on foodie adventures ever since. We follow your blog and always compare what we order to your experience and have great converstations about food and wine.
Thanks for the chance...
Rachel
Both my twin sister and I moved to NYC to pursue graduate school. Plate by plate would be the greatest way to visit beautiful southern California and enjoy all the food we miss and keep talking about.
i would really appreciate having a chance to experience an upscale foodie environment once in my life.. to gain a new appreciation for quality food and the chefs behind their masterpiece.
Would be great to try all the tasty food at one venue. It would be a great birthday gift for me if I could win the tickets (my birthday is August 2nd). Looking forward to an evening of great food, drink and a fun evening :)

I was born and raised in Nebraska and have been living in LA for the past 1.5 years. I feel LA's culture has a lot to do with the food, and I have had a great time learning more about my new home by going to all the foodie places! LA is full of different cultures and people and you can find the largest array of food. I also became Yelp Elite and that has given me even more opportunities to get to know LA. I still haven't had the chance to try everything, but I feel going to Plate by Plate would be a great chance to further my food adventures :)
Other than the food, I have also learned more about my Asian side, moving to LA. As you can guess there aren't many Asian Americans in good old Nebraska. PbP is one of the biggest Asian American events in LA and I wold love to come out and support them. I also am very interested in learning more about East West Players!
I would really love to win these tickets and would really appreciate the opportunity to experience such a great event!
I consider myself an ultimate foodie and what I look forward to the most from this event is no surprise. The sheer amount of delectable options! Being a busy poor college student, I hardly ever find the time to indulge in fine dining. Even when I do find the time, often I find my friends and myself stuck on the age-old predicament: "where do you want to eat?". Such an event solves our problem by bringing all our options together! Plate by plate not only brings some of the finest restaurants LA has to offer into one convienent location, but it also does so in a charitable manner. It's an event where everyone wins. To be able to attend such an event would give me the greatest opportunity to foster my one true life philosophy; live to eat, not eat to live.
